Community Rules & FAQ.
They're more like guidelines, really. • Journals No update limit. I'm not going to make this game a struggle to write something - if you're into your character and feel they are developed enough, writing an entry in first or third person shouldn't be an issue. Try to update at least once every week (7 days) in order to keep the community thriving. Activity will be based mostly on logging and general interaction. If you are absent from the game for more than two weeks (14 days) without notifying a moderator, you will be removed the following add/removal day. Each journal should relate to your character in some way - unnecessary characters (ex: underscores, x's, zeros) should be used in moderation. Have at least one icon before applying (if you need help, just ask); your AIM SN, a link to the moderator journal, and your character's biography should all be somewhere in your journal, either in the profile or an entry.
• Characters Be creative. Dramatic storylines and backgrounds are welcome due to the nature of the community, but don't be afraid to do some research! On the subject of PBs - variety is love. For this reason and this reason alone, ALL PBs will be accepted. That means scene kids, originals, mainstream PBs, etc. Character addition is based on writing quality, NOT who you choose to represent them. Please keep in mind that I reserve the right to ask you to change your PB if conflicts arise (which, to be honest, I don't see happening). If you have a problem finding someone else, let me know and I'll be more than happy to help you find someone. Also, remember that the characters occupying New Orleans come from a multitude of backgrounds and lifestyles.
• Role-playing Everyone has their own style. Observe the quality over quantity rule, please. Don't just try to fill up space or increase your word count - just, y'know, write well. Convey emotions, scenery, whatever. I don't really care. Preferably everyone in the community will use third person storybook style, but if you're more comfortable using asterisks or something, that's fine. Writing shouldn't be a chore, so make sure you write something your partner will want to read and respond to.
• Logging All logs will be posted in dossiers under an lj-cut. So if Sally and Charlie role played one night, they'll decide who'll get the lovely task of posting it. Each log should be marked either WIP or CL (WIP stands for Work in Progress, and CL stands for Complete Log). Format for logging:
Subject Line of the Entry: Sally vs. Charlie, CL Setting: French Quarter. Synopsis: Sally and Charlie rent a movie, watch the movie, get drunk off their ass, and have a one-night stand they wish they could forget. Rating: NC-17.
• Maturity If you have a problem with someone, take care of it yourself. Most of us should be able to handle conflicts privately and on our own. This is to keep OOC drama to a minimum. Never remove someone from your character's journal just because you have an issue with who they are as a person. Never let your feelings for a writer affect your character. Some people are douche bags, but their character may not be. If it becomes an issue within the community, I will intervene. Hopefully I won't have to remove anyone because they're a moron and incapable of handling themselves, but...well. These things happen.
FAQ • How are lycans made? It all begins with a bite. A lycan's saliva contains a highly contagious virus that when introduced to the human body has a nearly 100% success rate. First shift is on the full moon, whether it's that night or in a month's time.
• Are lycans ever born? No. While the mother shifts with the full moon, her fetus does not. Nearly every werewolf pregnancy ends in miscarriage. Some lycans have tried to carry a baby to full term only to have been disappointed somewhere along the way. And some members of the New Orleans pack forbid pregnancies altogether, fearing that what would be born wouldn't have the conscience and feelings of a human but, instead, be completely animal with an insatiable hunger for the hunt.
• How are vampires made? A vampire's turning is less biological and more spiritual - or demonic, depending on how you look at it. The human of a vampire's choosing is drained of all their blood, and then fed the blood of the vampire. They turn almost immediately. Their mortal body "dies" and expels all waste (feces and urine, mostly) over a matter of hours. After it's all said and done, the fledgling will often hunt under their sire's watchful eye.
• Are vampires ever born? No. Vampires are sterile, since their mortal body has died. Strange thing is that they are capable of having sex the way a human does and are able to have orgasms. Depending on the age of the vampire, though, the orgasms may be "dry." Vampires prefer blood sex to genital sex - as in, taking blood from their partner while their partner takes blood from them. They say it's much more satisfying.
• What is a Master Vampire? After a few centuries - maybe less - some vampires reach "Master Vampire" status. Master Vampires are similar to alphas in a werewolf pack. Their abilities are more enhanced than the average vampire: comparing a Master Vampire to a vampire is like comparing a human to a vampire. Some of them have special abilities, some of them don't. It's rare for a vampire to reach Master Vampire status, and even rarer for two or more MV's to be in the same city.
• What is the Master of the City? The Master of the City is the most dominant and powerful Master Vampire in a region. Usually the leader of the city's predominant kiss. They have the final say in whether or not another Master Vampire will be allowed in their territory - weak Master Vampires usually get the thumbs up, rival Master Vampires get the boot.
• Where is this game set? New Orleans, modern day - sans Katrina.
• What's the deal with the war? Werewolves and vampires have been warring for as long as anyone can remember. They have an extreme hatred for one another. Sometimes they ignore their 500+ year-long feud if politics take center stage. Squabbles break out all over the city between fledgling vampires and newly-turned lycans; the elders are often left to pick up the pieces.
